About the Client
The first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years, Hinkley Point C in Somerset will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.
Construction and operation of Hinkley Point C will create 25,000 employment opportunities, up to 1,000 apprenticeships and 64% of the project’s construction value is predicted to go to UK companies. There are currently over 3,100 workers on site.
Solution Information
The empty shell of the space was transformed into a modern and well-designed gym that proved to be very popular with on-site workers; the complete solution
was designed, delivered and installation on-time and within budget.
Objectives
Newbody Fitness was chosen to create a complete gym solution for two residential developments that would house thousands of on-site workers. Naturally EDF had exacting standards which meant that the gym needed to provide a safe and effective workout for staff;
not only was safety paramount but the gym needed to be inviting and attractive to would-be site workers. EDF needed the expertise of the Newbody Fitness team to advise them on the best solution, as well as the operational aspects of running an un-supervised gym.
Gym Design & Planning
EDF provided Newbody Fitness with a blank canvas and wanted us to provide a turn-key design
that was tailored to each site’s needs; this meant that the layout need to be right and to maximize the use of the available space and provide distinct zones for cardio, free-weights
and functional training.

In order to provide a total gym solution, Newbody Fitness would need to supply all the components of a successful gym including:
